best year ever
Hello new friends and old friends!
Welcome to the Best Year Ever project! Sorry about only getting back to you just now. Wow I am overwhelmed by the number of people who are interested in participating in this project. I am so touched to see so many people have such strong emotional connection with their animal companions! It gives me a lot of hope! And ultimately hope and positivity is what I am trying to say with this project. It was a terrible year for most of us, but for our pets and maybe the planet, it’s probably the best year ever! At least we got that out of 2020.
I am working through everyone that got in touch. In the perfect world, I would LOVE to photograph everyone. I am going to try my best, but I think the reality is that it will take us a while to figure out our schedules, plans, logistics and etc.
I would like to jump right in and take care of some nitty gritty first. This is a personal documentary project planned and funded by me. There won’t be any money exchange. When the project wraps, there is a possibility for publication, but it’s way too early to say anything for sure. I’d love to share the images with you, but because of the volume, I will likely only be able to share the final ones. It means that I can only share the ones that have been selected and edited by me for the project.
Like what you saw on my post, I plan on taking a pretty emotional and abstract approach to the photography. These won’t be “pretty” portraits per se. A lot of them probably won’t make any sense at the first glimpse. But I think imperfection is part of the story! I think pet ownership, as we all know, isn’t always puppies and rainbows. It’s freaking hard sometimes, if not most of the time! The story may not even be told with a picture of your dog. Maybe an image of her favourite toys or your muddy jeans will say it all.
So, if these still sound like a good idea to you, let’s do it! I’d like to do the majority of the photography in the next few weeks. To help me come up with some ideas, could you please tell me a story about how your pets helped you through the pandemic? Is there anything that symbolizes your relationship? Please either DM me or email me at hubert@hubertkang.com. If you can’t reach me, you can also reach out to my colleague aiken@hubertkang.com.
Thank you! So looking forward to this!
